Professor Beatriz Penalver Bernabe holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Murcia in Spain, a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Northwestern University in Chicago. Before obtaining her Ph.D. at Northwestern University. she worked for several years as a Lead Polymer Process Development Engineer at General Electric in Spain and in United States. During her time at GE, Dr. Penalver Bernabe was granted with 5 patents for the production and purification of polyetherimides. For her postdoctoral fellowship with Professor Jack Gilbert—one of the best-known international experts in Human Microbiome, Professor Beatriz Penalver Bernabe was awarded with the prestigious Arnold O. Beckman Postdoctoral Award.

Professor Beatriz Penalver Bernabe is interested in understanding multicellular dynamic biologic complex systems in reproductive biology. She is currently applying her engineering and data science expertise in understanding the complex relationships between mental health, endocrine, neurological and immunological systems, and gut microbiome during pregnancy and postpartum.

We are currently looking for talented, independent, highly motivated and eager to learn
individuals to work in our interdisciplinary lab. Individuals with interests in clinical research,  (reproductive) biological engineering, data science and/or systems biology are encouraged to apply. We have available positions at the undergraduate, master, graduate and postdoctoral levels. Our lab is very interdisciplinary and we love diversity, thus we are looking for all kinds of backgrounds, including bioengineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, nursing, neuroscience, biology, psychology. Compensation for undergraduate and master students might be available per case basis.
